The Department of Painting at the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture held a unique performance event that combined art with sustainability. On Tuesday, May 6, the group performance art event titled “From Recycling to Art: Textile Portrait” was held in the Battalgazi Campus Conference Hall Foyer under the curatorship of Dr. Selcan Kalın.
Art Meets Sustainability
During the event, a portrait was constructed using fabric scraps that are considered waste in everyday life. The performance was a group project that integrated both physical and visual art disciplines. Dr. Selcan Kalın, who made a statement on the subject, described the content of the event as follows: "As Malatya Turgut Özal University, we performed this performance for the first time in the city. We brought together physical and compositional forms of artistic expression using everyday fabric pieces and strings. This idea, which began with a small sketch, turned into an approximately one-hour performance by the students accompanied by music.“ Sıla Temiz, one of the students who performed at the event, explained the background of her work: ”We created a new art form with discarded or recycled fabrics. It was very exciting for us to share this performance, which was created through both individual and collective contributions, with the university community." Students who contributed to the event: Zeynep Aslan, Sıla Temiz, Esra Dilek Sarıkaya, Samed Dikici, Songül Dağ, Nazmiye Şevval Kılıçaslan, Mehmet Altındağ, Abuzer Onay
