The 2nd Malatya Theater Days, organized in collaboration with Malatya Turgut Özal University and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, took place between May 10 and 19, 2025. The plays performed at the Kemal Sunal Stage of the Malatya Congress and Culture Center made a significant contribution to the city's cultural life and aimed to enhance social interaction through art.
Both classical and contemporary works were staged during the Theater Days, giving art lovers the opportunity to enjoy plays of different genres. The four plays included in the program provided audiences with an art-filled week.
On May 10, Nikolay Gogol's immortal work, “Diary of a Madman,” met with the audience. Directed by Dr. Atakan Aslan, the play was highly acclaimed for its tragicomic portrayal of an individual's reckoning with society and his own inner world.
On May 12, the play “Not All Thieves Are Bandits,” written by Italian theater master Dario Fo, was staged. Directed by Dr. Atakan Aslan, the play attracted attention with its story woven with the subtleties of political humor.
On May 17, Patrick Barlow's world-renowned crime-comedy work “39 Steps” was staged. Directed by Sündüz Adilak, the play attracted attention with its fast-paced and entertaining structure, also known from Alfred Hitchcock's cinematic adaptation.
On May 19, Malatya Theater Days came to an end with the play “40 Seconds.” Directed by Sündüz Adilak, the play told the story of Gazi Yalçın Yedek, who was wounded in an EYP explosion in Gediktepe, Hakkari. Centered on a true story of heroism, the play did not limit itself to merely recounting a military operation, but also shed light on the resilience of the human spirit, love for one's country, and the meaning of sacrifice.
Highlighting the unifying power of art, the Malatya Theater Days served as a cultural gathering point for both university students and city residents. Throughout the event, theater enthusiasts had the opportunity to watch stage performances enriched with diverse perspectives and interpretations.
