Students from the Malatya Turgut Özal University (MTÜ) Painting Club exhibited their artwork prepared as part of the UNIDES Project titled “Transforming Clothing, Denim, Accessories, Thread, and Home Textile Products into Works of Art within the Scope of Sustainability.” The exhibition was presented to art enthusiasts on Saturday, May 24, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hanımınçiftliği Youth Center. The exhibition opening was attended by Dr. Selcan Kalın, Assistant Professor at the Department of Painting, Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture, MTÜ; Dr. Yasemin Keskin Yılmaz, faculty member of the Visual Communication Design Department, Haydar Güler, Director of Sports Services at the MTÜ Health, Culture, and Sports Directorate, Ömer Ali Sarıkaya, Leader of the Hanımınçiftliği Youth Center, students, their families, and visitors.
The exhibition, coordinated by Dr. Selcan Kalın, an academic advisor to the community and a faculty member of the Painting Department at MTÜ's Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture (STMF), featured original works created by students on the theme of sustainability.
Assistant Professor Selcan Kalın made the following statement about the exhibition:
"We organized this exhibition under the theme of sustainability as part of the ÜNİDES Project. We transformed recyclable objects such as clothes, jeans, fabrics, curtains, ropes, buttons, and jewelry into works of art. In workshops with my students, we placed these materials on canvases to create portraits and landscapes. The aim of this project was to demonstrate how materials considered waste can be transformed into artistic objects. The works turned out beautifully, and I would like to thank each of my students for their contributions.”
The works featured in the exhibition demonstrated how the concept of sustainability can be interpreted through an artistic approach. Portraits created with fabric pieces, nature landscapes prepared with waste materials, and three-dimensional compositions created by combining different materials attracted attention. At the end of the event, which provided young aspiring artists with the opportunity to showcase their creative perspectives, Dr. Selcan Kalın presented plaques to the students who contributed to the project.
