Malatya Turgut Özal University (MTÜ) Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (STMF) Music Department Music Ensemble has undertaken a meaningful social responsibility project within the scope of the project titled "Is There Anyone Who Can Hear Music? Touching Hearts Shaken by the Earthquake with Notes." Ebubekir Demir, president of the Music Society and a student in the Music Department, coordinated the project, which was carried out as part of the UNIDES 2nd Term Project, while Lecturer Harun Barış, a member of the STMF Music Department academic staff, served as academic advisor.
Throughout the project, numerous music-based activities and educational programs were organized for children and young people affected by the earthquake across Malatya. The activities, led by members of the MTÜ Music Society, aimed to enhance children's emotional resilience, support their rehabilitation processes through music, and strengthen their social integration. The ensemble conducted numerous activities between March 27 and May 31, 2025, in container cities, including getting to know the children, rhythm exercises, singing activities, instrument introductions, musical drama, group games, and improvisation workshops.
In this project, which focuses particularly on children, basic music education is provided by volunteer instructors, strengthening young people's connection with music and creating an atmosphere of hope. During the project, various institutions collaborated with each other, contributing to the activities of organizations such as TEGV, the Ministry of Family and Social Services, Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, and the Provincial Directorate of National Education. A wide range of activities were carried out in the field, from faculty-wide discussions to container city concerts, career fairs, and social activities organized for individuals with special needs, including music recitals and stage performances. In the project, which reached approximately 2,000 people, over 1,500 target audience members and nearly 500 spectators actively participated in the activities carried out by a 40-person team. The musical education activities conducted as part of the project included rhythm exercises, singing, instrument introduction, group interaction games, and musical drama activities.
The closing event of the project was held on Saturday, May 31, in collaboration with TEGV at Malet-2 Container City. The event was attended by STMF Music Department faculty member and community academic advisor Harun Barış, STMF Painting Department faculty member Dr. Selcan Kalın, TEGV Malet-2 Container City Learning Unit manager Esma Fırat, community members, volunteers, children, and their families. The team that took the stage at the closing event presented the audience with an unforgettable musical feast. Ebubekir Demir, Emre Arslan, Birol İmrek, Öznur Bozkurt, and Medine Coşkun performed in the orchestra, while İsa Turgut provided the vocals. Under the guidance of the Music Community's academic advisor, Lecturer Harun Barış, the stage layout and performances were professionally prepared for the event.
