The MTÜ Plastic Arts Society and the MTÜ Ecology and Arts Society, formed by students from the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Arts, Design, and Architecture (STMF) at Malatya Turgut Özal University (MTÜ), have launched two noteworthy projects focused on sustainability, one of the current topics of discussion in contemporary art.
Within the scope of the UNIDES Projects, the studies led by Assoc. Prof. Döndü Tülay Özkul, Head of the STMF Painting Department and academic advisor to the societies, took shape under the titles “Biomaterials and Sustainable Art Workshop” and “The Aesthetics of Textile Waste.” The exhibition, which aims to raise environmental awareness through art, opened on Wednesday, June 11, at the Malatya Governorate Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism Exhibition Hall with the participation of our Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Ersan Çiftci. The exhibition featured paintings, objects, installations, and experimental material works prepared using nature-friendly production techniques, which were presented to art lovers.
In the first phase of the projects, exhibitions and informational events were organized in elementary, middle, and high schools. These events aimed to instill ecological awareness and a sustainable understanding of art in young people; presentations and conferences were used to raise environmental awareness among participants. In the final phase of the project, an exhibition titled “Bioluşum” showcased artworks created using natural and recyclable materials, making environmental awareness visible through artistic expression.
The project, which was prepared with the objectives of spreading environmental awareness in society through artistic means, creatively utilizing waste materials, and reflecting a sustainable lifestyle culture in art, received significant interest from visitors. “Bioluşum” demonstrated the social impact of interdisciplinary art projects.
